Doris Jane Barr

November 5, 1922 — March 20, 2018

Mrs. Doris Jane (Miller) Barr, 95, of Columbus, formerly of Amanda, Ohio passed away on March 20, 2018 at Friendship Village in Columbus.  She was born on November 5, 1922 in Amherst, Ohio, to the late Franklin S. and Christine (Gruse) Miller.  Doris was a graduate of Amherst High School (1940) and Oberlin College (1944). She retired as a math teacher from the Columbus City Schools.  Doris was the beloved wife of the late Wallace Barr, Jr. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Steinhaus Wells and Phylllis “Feef” Kirschner Dellefield and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Doris is survived by her son, William C. Barr (Sherry) of Rosenberg, TX, daughter, Leslie J. Warnock (Robert) of Fairfield, OH, and son Dean D. Barr (Jennifer) of Marine on St. Croix, MN; grandchildren, Timothy Barr, Erica Barr Weiss, Rachel Barr Divin, Sean Warnock, Aaron Warnock, Todd Warnock, Jason Barr, Justin Barr, and Sam York; and great-grandchildren Ariana Barr, Natalya Barr, Caelan Weiss, Marcus Weiss, Marissa Divin, Addilyn Divin, Tomas Divin, Bronwyn Warnock, Sebastian Warnock, Caleb Warnock and Graham Warnock. She was a member of Amanda Presbyterian Church and Central College Presbyterian Church. Doris will be forever remembered for many loving, humorous, gracious and good-natured acts; her love of family, her sense of humor, her love of the Barr farm in Amanda, Ohio, her unintentional service to NASA as the high school advanced math teacher of future Astronaut Neil Armstrong, her steady stream of antics in partnership with younger sister Feef, her depth of love, enjoyment and pride of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her life-long modeling of “PMA” (positive mental attitude). Further, there is no doubt that Doris Barr was someone to be counted on to show up whenever friends, family or community members needed a compassionate boost in spirit. Those who wish may donate in Doris' name to the Amanda Clearcreek Alumni Endowment Fund, PO Box 275, Amanda, OH 43102; Amanda Presbyterian Church, 141 Church St. Amanda, OH 43102; and Central College Presbyterian Church, 975 South Sunbury Rd., Westerville, OH 43081. Friends and family members are invited to attend the memorial service, officiated by Rev. David Redding, at 2:00 p.m. Friday April 20 at Friendship Village, 5800 Forest Hills Blvd, Columbus, Ohio. A private internment will take place at the Amanda Township Cemetery, Amanda, Ohio. Taylor Funeral Home is handling arrangements in Amanda.
