Dorothy Blankenship was a woman who never let age define her and it never stood a chance of slowing her down. To Dorothy, getting older certainly didn't mean growing old. She was just as likely to be found outside playing football in the yard with the kids or piling onto a sled and heading down the hill as she was sitting and watching from the sidelines. She believed in being part of the fun.
Dorothy was loving, caring, and always ready to laugh. She also had a wonderfully feisty side that those who knew her best will never forget. She might stick her tongue out at you when you least expected it-or, if the mood struck her, give you a certain one-finger salute that made everyone laugh. That playful spirit was simply Dorothy, and it remained with her throughout her life.
She found happiness in the simple things, including cinnamon donuts, peppermints, and butterscotch pies, but nothing brought her greater joy than her family. Dorothy is survived by her children, Kathy Blankenship, Theresa (Timothy) Curry, Larry Blankenship, Kevin (Vicki) Blankenship; proud grandmother of many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She didn't simply watch her grandchildren grow up-she got down in the yard and played with them, laughed with them, made memories with them, and showed them that you're never too old to have a little fun.
Dorothy experienced tremendous heartache during her lifetime and was preceded in death by her husband, William Blankenship; two of her children, her daughter Laura and her son Terry; grandchildren, Vanessa, TJ, and Adam Dean; great grandchildren, Arlo, Michelle, Jersey, and Brayden. Their memories remained an important part of her life and of the family she loved so deeply.
We will all remember Granny D-loving, funny, caring, a little ornery, and completely unforgettable.
