Ethelyn (Ethie) Lou Carroll, 83, of Lancaster, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from a short battle with cancer. Ethelyn was born to the late Claude and Ruth (Kane) Carroll in Rockbridge on December 9, 1933. She was number 13 of 14 children. Ethelyn was a retired restaurant owner of KFC in Logan, Yankee Burger in Nelsonville, and the Dry Dock at Hideaway Hills. She loved her family, animals, and never met a stranger. Ethelyn had a love of slot machines, and was always the life of the party.
She is survived by her loving children, Kimberly Henthorn of Lancaster, Dawn (Gregg) Warthman of Millersport, Robin (Bill) Gambill, and Julie (Steve) Feiler both of Lancaster; son-in-law, Vaughn âSonnyâ Grubb of Canal Winchester; and step daughter, Cheryl Hardwick of Lancaster. Ethelyn is also survived by her sister, June (Walter) Yantez Miller, sisters-in-law, Carlene Carroll, Carla Butler, Evelyn and Janet Carroll; 20 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; best friend, Linda Bruno; her 2 adopted daughters, Sue Carroll and Shena Thomas; and her beloved fur babies, Buttons and Cooper.
In addition to her parent, Ethelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence H. Barnett;
2 daughters, Connie Barnett Grubb, and Stormy Barnett; her 9 brothers, Woodrow, Lionel, Clyde, Raymond, Charles, Donald, Richard, Russell and Loren Carroll; 3 sisters, Brenda Carroll, Evelyn Butler, and Aileen Swackhammer; sons-in-law, Robert Henthorn, and Steve Dennis; and step son-in-law, James Hardwick.
Funeral service will be at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Taylor Funeral Home in Amanda with her daughter, Dawn Warthman and son-in-law, Sonny Grubb officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 3-8 P.M. at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life gathering will be at the Moose Lodge 955 of Lancaster following the service at the cemetery.
