Gerald Franklin Butler

Gerald “Jerry” Franklin Butler, 79, of Lancaster passed away on January 19, 2017 at his home. He was born in Weston, West Virginia to the late Foster Butler and Rachel Mildred (White) Butler.  He graduated from Philo High School in Philo, Ohio where he then enlisted in the United States Air Force.  While in the Air Force as a frogman, he trained alongside the Seals specializing in Explosive Ordnance Disposal.  His expertise was with underwater demolition although he also worked with unexploded ordnances throughout the world.  After the military, he and Bonnie Emerick were married on August 15, 1964.  He worked for Western Freight and Western Carloading before taking over responsibility for Snortin Ridge farm from his father.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother James, and his sister Barbara Heine.  He is survived by Bonnie, his wife of 52 years, his two sisters, his son Gerry Dale (Sharon) Butler, his daughter Jennifer (Daniel) Butler Modaff, and grandchildren Alan and Daniel Butler, Ryley, Caden, and Sayre Butler Modaff.  He was very much anticipating meeting his soon to be adopted granddaughter, Emeri Butler Modaff.  Per his request, no service or memorial will be held.  In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in his name to the charity of your choosing.

Dear Butler family.  I am so sorry to have read of the death of Gerald.  Please accept my sincere condolences.  I would like to share something that I have personally found to be comforting.  It is found in the Bible at John 5:28, 29 and Revelation 21:4.  These verses tell us that soon God is going to bring about a resurrection of our dear loved ones as well as do away with all causes we have for suffering, including sickness and death.  Knowing this has always comforted me and it is my hope that these thoughts will comfort your family also.
