Gwendolene Hoplite

Gwendolene L. Hoplite, a life long resident of Amanda, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.  Gwen was born December 23, 1923 in Amanda and was the daughter of the late Frank and Mildred (Boerstler) Kull.  She was a 1941 graduate of Amanda High School.  She was a member and very active at Cedar Hill Calvary United Methodist Church and a former bank teller for the Clearcreek Valley Banking Co.
She is survived by her daughters Shirley (Jimmie) Smith and Elva (Jerry) Shasteen both of Amanda; six grandchildren, Rodney (Shelli) Smith, Chris (Robin) Smith, Phil (Jennifer) Smith, Dawn (Dave) Steinberg, Dana Anderson and Mindy (Sean) Pickrell; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Adra Hoplite and a brother, Herman Kull.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Taylor Funeral Home in Amanda.  Burial will follow in Amanda Twp. Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
