James A. âJim, Jimmyâ Young, 67, formerly of Royalton, passed away after a one year battle with cancer in Rapid City, South Dakota. He was born July 22, 1948 and was the son of the late Paul and Eloise Young. Jim attended Amanda Clearcreek High School and served in the U.S. Army. His 38 year career was in the trucking business and subcontracted for Waymore Trucking in Minnesota. He retired in 2014 and resided in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for over 30 years.
He is survived by his children, Sherry (John) Walter of Rockbridge, Tony (Amy) Young and Angela Thompkins both of Lancaster and Amanda (Joaquin) Martinez of South Dakota; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren; brother, Eugene âGeneâ Young and his daughter, Gina of Lancaster; sister-in-law, Barbara Young of South Carolina and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Young; a nephew, Rick Young and great niece, Harper Drolet.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Taylor Funeral Home in Amanda. Burial will follow in Amanda Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Research for Hemochromatosis in Jimâs memory.
