John H. Chumley, age 80, of Stoutsville, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, at OSU Medical Center. He was born on September 16, 1945, in Cincinnati, to the late James and Nellie (Fath) Chumley. John was a graduate of Madeira High School in Cincinnati, class of 1963. He went on to graduate from The Ohio State University, with a Master's Degree in Engineering. He worked for and retired from Techneglas in Columbus with 35 years of service. John was a lifelong learner; after retirement, he obtained his Associate's Degree in Computer Science and then audited Ph.D. level classes at O.S.U. While working with other graduates, John became interested in video game and drone development. He partnered with O.S.U Agricultural Services on several drone studies. John was a member of the Circleville Elks and a longtime member of the Pickaway Country Club where he loved to golf. He was an avid sports fan, and a follower of the Reds, Bengals, and most importantly, the O.S.U. football team. In 2019, John was diagnosed with two forms of Leukemia. His strength and perseverance were obvious to those closest to him during these difficult times.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jane; children, Sarah Shukys and Jon Daily; grandchildren, Abigail and Hayden Rittinger, and Jonny Daily; sister, Carole (Leo) Mattingley. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Dan Shukys; brother, Frank Auth.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Heidelberg Church in Stoutsville with Bob Zaayer officiating. Cremation has been arranged in the care of Taylor-Theller Funeral Home, Amanda.
John's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital, especially Dr. Behbehani and his staff.
