John O. Stone

With profound sadness and hearts filled with love, we announce the passing of John O. Stone on August 27, 2026, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, veteran, and friend. Though he has left this earthly life, his memory and the love he shared with so many will remain in our hearts forever.

Born October 28, 1940, John was a man of deep faith who believed in the goodness of family, the importance of love, and the promise of eternal life. We take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and has been welcomed home to be with the Lord.

John was a graduate of Chillicothe High School and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a respected member of Prince Hall Ionic Lodge #6 in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was a hard-working man who enjoyed his time at the VA Hospital in Chillicothe, DuPont, and Alliance Data Systems. John was a faithful member of East Columbus Community Church in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

He was a devoted and loving husband to Joan (Kern) Stone, of Piqua, surviving, with whom he shared a life filled with memories, laughter, love, and family for nearly 30 years of marriage. His family was one of the greatest joys of his life.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Shelley Stone Duncan of Chillicothe; stepdaughter, Tiffany Pontius of Piqua; siblings, David (Jean Ann) Stone of Queensbury, NY, Kevin Stone of Groveport, and Blanche Yates, of Columbus; stepson Corey (Ashley) Chapman, of Piqua; grandchildren, Jason Duncan of West Virginia, John (Kara) Duncan of Cincinnati, Nicole Marroni, and Alexander (Jetti) Marroni of Columbus; and great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Duncan and Jaylen Duncan, Isaac Taylor, Juliette Taylor, and Lucio Marroni, and special nieces and nephew, Debby (Steve) Hammond, Dottie Hitchens, and Carl Hitchens.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harold Stone Sr. and Alice (Winfield) Stone, and his brother Harold (Tiddley) Stone Jr.

John had a special place in his heart for his beloved Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes.

He loved dressing sharp, carrying himself with confidence, and making sure he was ready for any occasion. But it was his personality that people will remember most. His infectious laugh could light up a room, and his sense of humor and unmistakable presence brought joy to those around him. His absence will leave a space that cannot be filled, but his love, his laughter, and the memories he created will remain forever.

As we say goodbye, we do so with faith that this is not truly the end. His earthly journey has come to a close, but his eternal life has begun. May he rest peacefully in the loving arms of God, reunited with those who went before him.

In keeping with his wishes, a graveside service will be held at Amanda Township Cemetery at 2:30PM on September 4, 2026. John has been entrusted to Taylor-Theller Funeral Home, 111 W Main St, in Amanda, Ohio 43102. Special thanks to Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home in Piqua, Ohio.
