Margaret D. Gummere, 83, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018, in Lancaster, Ohio, surrounded by family after a brief illness.
Margaret, referred to as Peg by her family and friends, was born on March 5, 1934, in St. Clairsville, Belmont County, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Peter J. and Margaret I. (Ridgeway) Rinkes. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She worked hard to provide a loving home for her family. Peg was a woman of strong faith who had a heart of gold and loved everyone unconditionally. She was a member of the Amanda Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her son, Alan T. (Janet) Gummere; daughters, Margaret R. Gummere and Carolyn M. (Mark) Bateson; grandchildren, Jessica (Matt) Lee, Rebecca (Drew) Runn, Zachary (Hannah) Bateson and Alyssa (Ben) Richards; great grandchildren, Carter Lee, Abbigail Runn, Maci Runn, Brian Salmon-Waller and Mary-Jane Salmon; sister, Nancy Keely and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Alan L. Gummere; her brother, Richard Rinkes; sister-in-law, Norma Rinkes and brother-in-law, Chester Keely.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, at Taylor Funeral Home in Amanda with Pastor Liz Tietz officiating. A graveside service will immediately follow at Amanda Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service on Saturday.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Fairhope Hospice & Palliative Care of Fairfield County, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, Ohio 43130, Amanda Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 216, Amanda, Ohio 43102 or the Samaritan Center, 228 W. Hubert Avenue, Lancaster, Ohio 43130 in memory of Peg.
