Gary J. Darling, 69, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Pickering House. Gary was born May 7, 1943 in Lancaster and was the son of the late Raymond and Anna (Starwesky) Darling. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and a retired draftsman for Lucent Technologies. Gary was a 4th degree black belt and Sensei for 45 years. He was an instructor for Lancaster Karate at the YMCA. He was also a member of Pickaway County Sportsman Club and former Hocking Twp. Zoning Inspector. He was involved with many of the coyote drives held in Amanda and Salt Creek Townships.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marilyn (Arledge) Darling; children, Todd (Mary Jo) Darling of Minnesota, Brandon (Michelle) Seymour of Columbus and Shannan (Josh) Hill of Amanda; grandchildren, Michael Geletzke, Haley and Hayden Darling and Madison Hill; sister, Pamela (Marvin) Karshner of Lancaster and a nephew, Jon Karshner.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME with Rev. John Michles officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Lancaster. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the Karate class for their continued support and Fairhope hospice for the excellent care of Gary during his illness.
