Mr. John W. Kane III

John W. Kane III, 73, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Grant Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born September 2, 1940 in Lancaster and was the son of John W. and Gleneth (Smith) Kane Jr.

John was a 1959 graduate of Laurelville High School, owner/operator for over 40 years and life member of O.O.I.D.A. He was a Aircraft Fuel Systems Mechanic in the U.S. Air Force and served during Viet Nam.

John is survived by his wife of 27 years, Carolyn (McCrery) Kane; mother, Gleneth Kane of Rockbridge; children, Susan (David Simmons) Miller of Lancaster, John W. (Sandra) Kane IV and Jason (Amanda Miller) Kane both of Amanda; step children, Marie (Mark) Hayden of Lancaster and Suzan (Jamie) Thimmes of Bremen; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Quaid Miller, Lil and Steph Kane; step grandchildren, Jeff (Amber) Thimmes, Cearra (Jared Lutz) Thimmes and Stacy (B.J. Patterson) Drum; step great grandchildren, Dani and Alex Drum, Lilly and Dillan Thimmes; brothers, Robert (Juanita) Kane and David (Caroline) Kane; sister, Judy Kane and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Gary Kane.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME in Amanda with Pastor Jonathan Morgan officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. John will be honored with a military tribute following the service on Monday.
