Joseph Lee Sheets, SSG, U.S. Army, 26, of Greenfield, passed away unexpectedly Friday, December 6, 2013 in Las Vegas, NV. Joseph was born January 18, 1987 in Columbus and was the son of Michael Sheets and Connie Bowersock. He was a 2005 graduate of Lancaster High School. He fought for our freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan during his 8 year enlistment.
He is survived by his best friend, Abbie Cooper of California; father, Michael Sheets of Las Vegas, NV; step mother, Sarah Sheets of Las Vegas, NV; maternal grandmother, Judith Siders of Columbus; aunts, Linda (Rick) Wilkin of Sugar Grove, Terri (Dave) Leupold of Amanda, Kathi (Jeff) Holland, Sheryl Mueller and Missy Locklear all of Columbus; uncle, Jeff (Joyce) Sheets of Columbus; numerous cousins especially Cory Hanna of Greenfield. He is also survived by his military family with whom he has become attached to over the years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Connie Ambuehl; maternal grandparents, Joseph Lee and Lena Myers and paternal grandfather, Edgar McDougal.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday at the TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME in Amanda with Chaplain Jim Ferrell officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Stoutsville with military honors. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family would like contributions to Huntington's Disease Society, 1581 Dodd Dr., Columbus, Ohio 43210 in memory of his mother, Connie.
