Command Sgt. Major Robert R. Schooley, 76, of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at OSU Hospital. Bob was born June 3, 1936 in Amanda and was the son of the late Earl and Gertrude (Spung) Schooley. Robert and his family were very proud of his service to his country as a retired U.S. Army veteran. Bob served 22 years of active duty and 15 years mobile.
He served in the Korean Conflict, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf and Desert Storm. He was formerly employed by P& H Harnischfeger Crane in Mesa, AZ. Bob is a hometown hero and was a wonderful father and grandfather.
He is survived by his children, Robert (Rafaela) Schooley of Lancaster, Richard (Michelle) Schooley of Canal Winchester, Michael (Jo-Ann) Schooley of Villa Rica, GA, Sharon (Chris) Dunkel and William (Tina) Schooley both of Lancaster; 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; brothers, Larry (Linda), Edward (Darlene), Nick (Donna) and Harold (Janie) Schooley; sisters, Clara (Paul David) Kraft, Dixie (Gayle) Campbell, Vivian Miller, Sharon Kay Good, Janet (Larry) Reynolds and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Patricia (Harrison) Schooley and brothers, Frank, Samuel, David "Spark" and Boyd Schooley.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME in Amanda. Inurnment will follow at Amanda Twp. Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
