Mrs. Alice Naomi Pontious

Alice N. Pontious, 88, of Washington Court House, formerly of Amanda, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Country Glenn Nursing Home. She was born June 22, 1924 in Hocking county and was the daughter of the late Homer and Lucile (Smith) Hartsaugh. Alice was a member of the Amanda Presbyterian Church and former member of Order of the Eastern Star and Olivedale Senior Center. After obtaining her bachelor's degree from Ohio University she began teaching for the Amanda Clearcreek School District and retired after 20 years of service.
She is survived by her children, Victor (Carole) Pontious Jr. of Bloomingburg, Ohio and LuAnne Ballinger of Aurora, Colorado; grandchildren, Evan and Abigail Ballinger and Tori and Drew Pontious; sister, Kathryn Faigley of Lancaster; brother, Tom Hartsaugh of Circleville and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Pontious and a brother, Glen Hartsaugh.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon on Thursday at the TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME in Amanda with Mel Wickensimer officiating. Burial will be in Amanda Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Thursday.
