Myrtle Ruth Porter, 90, of Amanda, passed away at her residence surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 9, 2016. She was born on May 6, 1926 in Grayson, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late John Quincy and Emma (Pennington) McCoy. She was a member of New Hope Assembly of God.
Myrtle is survived by three sons, Joseph (Connie) Porter Jr. of Stoutsville, Jerry L. (Anita) Porter of Lancaster and James R. (Susan) Porter of Amanda; three daughters, Betty (Jim) Smith of Stoutsville, Ruth (George) Boll of Chillicothe and Mary (David) Anderson of Amanda; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren; sister, Joann (Jay) Owen of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Porter Sr.; brothers, J.D., Ray and Hugh McCoy and sisters, Gail Price, Ruby Weaver and Esther Taylor
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Taylor Funeral Home in Amanda with Pastor Chuck Sharp officiating. Burial will be in Amanda Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
