Raymond E. Thompson, 91, of Amanda, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Crestview Manor. He was born April 29, 1923 in Milford Center, Ohio to the late George and Leifa (Pierce) Thompson. Raymond was a member of the United Church of Christ in Clearport. He was a graduate of Colton H.S. and earned his bachelors degree in education from the Ohio State University. Raymond was an educator for over 56 years teaching history and geography, including 11 years at Amanda H.S. where he also coached baseball and basketball.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Wilda (McBroom) Thompson; children, Juliann (John) Smith of Canal Winchester, Christiann (Ron) Kalize of Winter Haven, FL., and Edwin Thompson of Amanda; grandchildren, Brandon (Kerry) Stroup, Karen (Jeff) Morris, Amy Thompson and Bobbi Ausmus; great grandchildren, Kaylee and Jackson Morris; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Funeral service will be Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at the Taylor Funeral Home in Amanda with Rev. Marilin Miller officiating, burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Stoutsville. Family will receive friends on Friday from 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial contributions to oneâs favorite charity of choice in Raymondâs memory.
