Robert E. Hondel Sr.

Robert E. Hondel Sr., age 86 of Amanda, passed away Monday January 18, 2021 at Mt. Carmel East. He was born October 29, 1934 in Estill, KY, son of the late Willis John and Madge (Martin) Hondel. He was a US Navy Veteran and was retired from General Motors with 35 years of service. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Family was everything to Bob. He loved German Shepherds and tinkering; Bob could make anything he needed. He always whistled while he worked.

   He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lola M. (Cisco) Hondel; children, Sally Ann (Todd) Hondel-Roberts, of Amanda and Robert E. Hondel Jr., of Amanda; grandson who he considered a son, Landon (fiancée Alexis Butterbaugh) Roberts, of Amanda; brother, Bill Hondel, of Zanesville; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marion Ellis Hondel.

   A private service has been arranged with Taylor-Theller Funeral Home, Amanda. Burial with military honors will be held at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
