Sylvia B. Hicks, 90, of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Pickering House. She was born in Knott County, Kentucky on February 25, 1926 and was the daughter of Nathaniel and Rosie Bolen. Sylvia was a homemaker, cook and quilter. She has made hundreds of quilts. She attended a two room school house and rode a horse to school when the weather was bad. Her father owned a general store in Kentucky where she worked growing up. She attended the Old Regular Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband of 54 years, Joshua Hicks; daughter Bonnie Shumaker and her siblings, Ford, Edison and June Bolen.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Donald (Elizabeth) Hicks of Jackson, Ronald (Teresa) Hicks of Lancaster, Connie (Russ) Bennett of Amanda, Paul (Sheila) Hicks of Lancaster, Sharon (Timothy) Binkley of Lancaster, Scott (Robyn Watkins) of Columbus and Michael (Sherrie) Hicks of Amanda; 15 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren with a great-great granddaughter on the way; sister, Judy Thomas of Jackson and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
A grave side service will held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Marcum Memorial Cemetery, 45215 Newsome Rd., Vinton, Ohio 45686. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Taylor Funeral Home in Amanda.
