Thomas Joseph Conkey

April 7, 1949 — January 29, 2026

Thomas Joseph Conkey of Amanda, Ohio, 76, passed away on January 29, 2026. He was born on April 7, 1949, in Lancaster, Ohio.

Thomas was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of faith. He married the love of his life, Doris Conkey, in 1982, and together they built a life rooted in family, faith, and love. A dedicated husband, Thomas made it his routine after retirement to prepare breakfast for his wife every morning—a simple act that reflected his deep care and devotion. He is also survived by his children: Kathy Devaney, Jeanette Zibolsky (David), and Joseph Conkey (Amanda). He was a proud grandfather to Brandyn, Rebecca, Harley, Jefferey, Harvey, and Tyler, and was blessed with several great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester T. Conkey and Sarah E. Conkey; his sister, Algie E. Wilson; his brother, Pastor Alvin B. Conkey; his son-in-law, Jeff Devaney; and his father-in-law, Jack Nusbaum.

Thomas dedicated 44 years of hard work to the Anchor Hocking Glass Factory, where he retired. Continuing his commitment to service, he worked for Fairfield County Jobs and Family Services for three years and later for Amanda-Clearcreek Schools for seven months, until the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He especially cherished time spent fishing with his brothers Lester and Alvin Conkey, and his cousins Mike and John LeVeck—moments filled with laughter, stories, and the simple joy of being together. Known as the king of dad jokes, Thomas had a gift for bringing smiles to those around him, often pairing humor with wisdom and kindness.

A man grounded in faith, Thomas lived his life trusting God and serving others with humility and love. His faith guided his actions, his family, and the way he treated everyone he met.

Calling hours will be held from 1:00–3:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 3:00 p.m. at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. The church will be providing a meal at 4:00 p.m. for family and friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to Taylor-Theller Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Thomas was a proud supporter of law enforcement, and this cause reflects his deep respect for those who serve and protect.

Checks may be made payable to: Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Foundation; Mail to: 328 Applestille Road, El Centro, CA 92243EIN: 99-4043380

While we will miss his laughter, his stories, and his perfectly timed dad jokes, we take comfort in knowing that Thomas has heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” and that heaven has gained both a faithful soul—and undoubtedly a few new jokes.
