Wendell Glenn Henderly, age 95, of Amanda, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the Pickering House in Lancaster surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 21, 1930 in Fairfield County, to Burl and Alice (Solt) Henderly. He was a graduate of Amanda High School, class of 1948. In 2025, he was honored as the oldest surviving graduate of Amanda High School. He began his work life as a farmer and then transitioned to DuPont in Circleville, as an electrical foreman, where he retired with almost 30 years of service. Wendell was a lifelong and active member of the Presbyterian Church in Amanda, where he served as an Elder for many years. He was a member and Past Master of the Amanda Masonic Lodge, F. & A.M. #509, where he was recently recognized for 60 years of service. Most folks wouldn't know that Wendell was a semi-professional shuffleboard player and a shrimper by moonlight - all while he and Hazel wintered in Florida for almost 50 years. He was a great father and an incredible husband.
He is survived by his children, Rita (Bill) Francis, of Amanda, Margaret (Mike) Thomas, of Beattyville, KY, and Max E. (Billye) Henderly, of Sautee Naccoochee, GA; grandchildren, Malinda (Larry) Sullivan, Angie (Craig) Bolin, Wendy (Tom) Booth, Mark (Megan) Francis, Stuart (Derek) Henderly; 11 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren with one more on the way; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Hazel M. (Sterling) Henderly; brothers, John and Boyd Henderly.
A Masonic service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2026, followed immediately by a funeral service with Pastor Christina Piper officiating. Interment will follow at Amanda Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
